Astrocartography (also referred to as locational astrology) is the astrology of place. It uses a map generated from where the planets were at the exact time you were born. Each person’s map is unique.
You can activate different themes in your life, such as love, career, or home by going to different areas on your map. Some places are more preferable, others are less preferable. No place is perfect.
The lines aren’t causing you to feel a certain way, similar to the time on a clock. Like, the clock isn’t making it 3 p.m. — it’s just reflecting the fact that it’s 3 p.m. By the lines, certain storylines are playing out.
The angles
There are 4 angles in astrocartography:
- Ascendant (AS or ASC) – all about you!
- Descendant (DS or DSC) – other people/your relationships
- Midheaven (MC) – public image and career
- Imum Coeli (IC) – home and privacy
In total, there are 44 longitudinal (vertical) lines on each person’s map, which includes all the planets and chiron (an asteroid) on each of these angles. You can go to a line based on what you’re interested in activating. So, for example, I’m going to my Jupiter MC line in about a month, which can activate expansion and growth for my career.
Though, it’s important to consider other factors that could influence how a line feels. Because…
Astrocartography is complex
Recently, I overheard a co-worker talking about astrocartography a few desks over. My ears perked up. It was so cool hearing about astrocartography out in everyday life. She told me she heard about it on TikTok and got a $1 report that told her to go to Russia, which she definitely didn’t want to do.
$1 reports or saying everyone should go to a particular line can be misleading. The experience of being on traditionally positive lines—Venus or Jupiter, which are the benefics in astrology—can be radically different for people based on:
- Aspects (where planets are placed in relation to other planets in a birth chart)
- Planetary condition (how well a planet acts within a sign)
- Parans (the latitude lines on a map, which represent where planetary lines cross)
- Timing (if there’s a difficult transit going over an area, the experience on a “good” line could be challenging)
